529 arrested in 24-hour DMP drive in Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 529 people in a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital, officials said on Thursday.

During the operation, police also filed 30 cases and recovered drugs, firearms, ammunition, and other items from the suspects.

DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi confirmed the information on Thursday morning, saying the arrests were made during separate raids conducted by different police units across Dhaka.

He said legal action against the arrested individuals is underway.

According to DMP data, 35 people were arrested by the Ramna Division, 39 by Lalbagh Division, 83 by Wari Division, 53 by Motijheel Division, 67 by Tejgaon Division, 133 by Mirpur Division, 56 by Gulshan Division, and 54 by Uttara Division.

In addition, eight people were arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) and one by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

Police recovered 100 grams of cannabis, 367 yaba tablets, two foreign-made pistols, three magazines, seven rounds of ammunition, six mobile phones, one switchblade knife, and one victim from the possession of the arrested individuals.

The DMP said such operations will continue to maintain law and order and prevent criminal activities in the capital.
