President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on the police to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism to maintain law and order and combat crime in the country.
The president made the call when Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban on Thursday.
During the meeting, the president directed the police to take immediate and appropriate measures to establish the rule of law.
He also instructed the IGP to take effective steps to curb cybercrime, including the spread of misinformation, disinformation and rumours, as well as robbery, extortion and drug proliferation, and to ensure the safety of women and children. He stressed the need to keep the public regularly informed and conduct widespread awareness campaigns.
Noting that the current government is working to uphold people’s fundamental human and democratic rights, President Mirza Fakhrul directed the police to continue taking effective measures to prevent extrajudicial killings, harassment of citizens and the filing of false cases.
During the meeting, the IGP briefed the president on various measures taken to strengthen the morale of the police force and modernise and digitalise the organisation. He sought the president’s overall cooperation in carrying out their duties.
The president assured him of his full cooperation.
