Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman Md Rezanur Rahman has been made an officer on special duty (OSD).
A notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary of the Senior Appointment-1 Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, Md Tanvir Hasan Ruman, on Sunday night said Rezanur Rahman had been attached to the Ministry of Public Administration as an OSD.
However, the reason behind his removal from the BPC post could not be confirmed immediately.
Earlier, the ministry had also made former BPC chairman Amin Ul Ahsan an OSD.
According to sources at the Ministry of Public Administration, Rezanur Rahman was appointed as BPC chairman on February 2. Before that, he served as chairman of Petrobangla.
Sources said discussions had emerged that the BPC chairman was under pressure over several issues, including the opening of the fuel sector to private players and the exclusion of some politically influential companies from the shortlist of suppliers for importing refined petroleum products.
He also faced criticism over an alleged move to shift BPC’s headquarters from Chattogram to Dhaka instead of keeping the corporation’s main office in the port city.
