A tourist was killed after falling into the sea while parasailing in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, raising fresh concerns over safety standards at the popular beach destination.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm at the Sea Sports parasailing point in the Darianagar area along the Marine Drive road. The victim, Shouvik Roy, was from Khulna and had travelled to Cox’s Bazar with a group of nine tourists.
According to reports, Roy was thrown off his safety harness mid-air during the parasailing activity and fell into the sea, sustaining critical injuries. He was rescued by the parasailing operators and rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The sudden tragedy has left his fellow travelers and family members in deep shock and grief.
Locals have long raised concerns over the safety measures of parasailing operations in Cox’s Bazar. Similar accidents linked to the same operator have sparked nationwide debate in the past. However, critics say that despite repeated incidents, effective steps to ensure safety and hold those responsible accountable have remained largely absent.
No immediate official statement was available from the district administration, tourism authorities, or the parasailing operator. Sources said an investigation is expected to be launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
