Jessore July fighters announce 10-point demand

4 August 2026 16:19 Updated: 4 August 2026 17:59

The Jessore district unit of the July Fighters Organisation has unveiled a 10-point set of demands, urging swift government action to realise the aspirations of the July mass uprising.

The demands were presented at a press conference held at the Jessore Press Club on Tuesday (August 4), where convenor Ahad Hossain read out a written statement on behalf of the organisation.

He said the government must take immediate and effective steps to uphold the spirit of the July uprising and meet public expectations. Key demands include the speedy trial of those involved in the July killings, implementation of a “July Charter” based on a referendum mandate, and rehabilitation of July fighters and families of the martyrs.

The organisation also called for strict measures to curb mob violence nationwide, ensure the safety of July fighters, and end political repression against opposition groups. It urged the government to foster unity among pro-July political forces instead of continuing a culture of suppression.

Additionally, the group demanded that those who were burned to death during the uprising—and were not linked to the previous government—be officially recognised as martyrs, with all promised benefits extended to their families.

The statement emphasised that the victory of the July uprising belongs to the people of Bangladesh as a whole, not any single political party. It urged the government to prevent any party from monopolising the achievement.

Among other demands were the re-verification of official gazettes of July fighters and martyrs to remove fraudulent names, and ensuring that government welfare initiatives such as family cards and farmer cards are distributed transparently to genuine beneficiaries without political influence.

The organisation called on the government to promptly implement the 10-point demands to preserve the spirit of the July uprising and fulfil the expectations of the people.

Member Secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib, along with several family members of martyrs, including Roushnara (mother of Abdullah Ibne Shaheed), Jesmin Akter (mother of Masnun Neel), Shahidur Rahman (father of Mahir), Hridoy Sheikh (brother of Riyad Sheikh), and Monowara Begum (mother of Mehdi Hasan), were present at the press conference.
