Govt asks media not to air Hasina remarks

The government has urged all media outlets not to broadcast, publish or disseminate any statements or remarks by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India after being sentenced to death in a crimes against humanity case.

The appeal came in a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday, hours after Prime Minister’s Adviser on Information Affairs Zahed Ur Rahman called on media organisations to comply with court directives regarding coverage of the ousted premier’s remarks.

“The government, in order to uphold the spirit of the July Movement and ensure compliance with legal obligations, once again requests all media outlets—including television channels, newspapers, online news portals and social media platforms—not to broadcast, publish or disseminate any statement or remarks made by fugitive Sheikh Hasina,” the ministry said.

The ministry said the request was aimed at ensuring compliance with existing court directives while preserving the principles of the July Movement.
