Dhaka: Bangladesh’s Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has expressed regret over errors and inaccuracies in a documentary on the July Mass Uprising after complaints that it failed to accurately portray the sequence of events. The ministry said the documentary would be reviewed, revised where necessary, and republished as soon as possible.
The documentary was screened on Wednesday (August 5) during a reception and discussion titled “Reception for the Families of July Martyrs and July Warriors” at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. Following the screening, some attendees alleged that the documentary did not properly depict the events of the July Mass Uprising, leading to an unexpected disruption at the venue.
In a statement issued on Thursday (August 6), the ministry expressed its sincere regret over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the history of the July Mass Uprising in an accurate, inclusive, and evidence-based manner.
The ministry said citizens have the right to raise concerns about the documentary or any other issue. However, it emphasized that such complaints should be presented through civil and orderly procedures. It also stated that the disruption, which occurred in the presence of the President, foreign diplomats, members of the media, and invited guests, had tarnished Bangladesh’s image. According to the statement, the incident also caused emotional distress to the invited families of the martyrs and the injured July fighters.
The statement further alleged that certain media outlets and social media users were deliberately spreading misinformation involving the Prime Minister in connection with the incident. The ministry urged all concerned to refrain from disseminating misleading and defamatory information.
It also called on the public to remain vigilant against any attempts to destabilize the country.
