Police recovered a pistol, a revolver and six rounds of ammunition from a garbage dump in the South Khilgaon area of the capital on Saturday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a raid at a garbage dump beside the Bagichar Jhilpar public toilet in South Khilgaon under Shahjahanpur Police Station and recovered the firearms and ammunition.
Police said the weapons and ammunition were found abandoned inside the pile of garbage. However, it was not immediately known who had left them there or why.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi said the firearms and ammunition were recovered during the operation based on confidential information.
He said legal action is being initiated over the recovery, while an investigation is underway to determine how and by whom the weapons and ammunition were left at the site.
