Seven Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in Delhi for allegedly overstaying in India in violation of the conditions of their double-entry visas, The Times of India reported.
The seven were each permitted to stay in India for up to 15 days per visit. Police identified them during a special operation to check whether foreign nationals were violating immigration rules.
According to police, the operation was launched following intelligence that several Bangladeshi nationals were staying illegally in Delhi. Officers searched hotels, guesthouses and other locations in central Delhi where foreign nationals commonly stay.
Police first detained 26-year-old Mohammad Nazrul Islam Faisal in the Nabi Karim area. During questioning, he reportedly provided information about other Bangladeshi nationals staying in the city.
Acting on the information, police conducted raids at several locations in Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar and detained six more Bangladeshis.
Officials subsequently checked their passports, visas and other travel documents and found that they had been granted double-entry visas allowing stays of up to 15 days per visit. Police said the authorised period had expired.
The detainees were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which imposed restrictions on them and initiated procedures for their deportation.
They were later transferred to a detention centre at Sewa Dham in Shahzadabad.
Police said they found no previous criminal involvement against any of the seven detainees.
