Bangladesh has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by flash floods and landslides in Nepal, saying it is ready to provide Kathmandu with all possible assistance for relief and rescue operations.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (August 26), Bangladesh said it was closely monitoring the devastating situation in Nepal, where hundreds of people remain missing and more casualties, including among tourists, are feared.
“The people of Bangladesh are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and extensive destruction caused by the sudden floods and landslides in Nepal,” the statement said.
The Bangladesh government and people, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, expressed solidarity with the Nepalese government and its people during the difficult time.
Dhaka conveyed its deepest condolences to the families of those who died and wished for the swift rescue of those still missing, as well as the speedy recovery of those injured.
“ We express our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives. We hope that the missing will be rescued soon and the injured will recover quickly,” the ministry said.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s solidarity with Nepal, the Foreign Ministry said Dhaka stands ready to support Kathmandu in dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
“Bangladesh is ready to provide Nepal with all possible assistance in relief and rescue operations,” the statement said.
