The government has dismissed four senior police officers over proven allegations of prolonged unauthorised absence from duty and misconduct in the performance of their official responsibilities.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued four separate gazettes on Wednesday (September 2) announcing the dismissals. The orders were signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury on behalf of the President.
The dismissed officers are Sanjit Kumar Roy, former Joint Police Commissioner (Additional DIG) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch; Manas Kumar Poddar, former Deputy Commissioner of the DMP; Md Shahjahan, former Superintendent of Police in Rangpur; and Md Hafiz Al Faruk, Additional Superintendent of Police at Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda.
According to the gazettes, Sanjit Kumar Roy had been absent from duty without permission since September 17, 2024. A departmental investigation found him guilty of misconduct and desertion, as well as gross negligence of duty and disobedience of government orders.
Manas Kumar Poddar had been absent without permission since October 18, 2024. A departmental investigation also found the allegations of misconduct and desertion against him proven.
Former Rangpur SP Md Shahjahan failed to return to duty after his leave ended on January 16, 2025. He was subsequently investigated over his prolonged unauthorised absence, and the allegations were proven.
Md Hafiz Al Faruk had been absent from duty without permission since February 1, 2025. A departmental investigation found the allegations against him proven as well.
The Ministry said departmental cases and investigations against all four officers were conducted under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. Their dismissals were approved based on the recommendations of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission and with the approval of the President.
