Opposition Leader in Parliament and Jamaat Ameer Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday called on China to support an early resolution of the Rohingya crisis, stressing the need for the safe and timely repatriation of displaced Myanmar nationals to their homeland.
He made the request during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen at his office-cum-residence in Dhaka.
The two sides held cordial and productive discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest, according to a press release from the Parliament Secretariat.
They expressed optimism that the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and China would continue to deepen, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, trade, politics and diplomacy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and accelerating cooperation to promote development and shared prosperity.
The meeting also featured detailed discussions on key initiatives, including the proposed Teesta Barrage Mega Project, the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor, Chinese investment in Bangladesh and several planned development projects.
Emphasising the importance of their historic partnership, the two leaders described Bangladesh-China relations as a cornerstone for enhancing people’s welfare, expanding trade, strengthening development cooperation and promoting cultural exchanges.
They expressed hope that bilateral relations would grow more dynamic and multifaceted in the years ahead.
