A fire broke out in an abandoned railway coach in Chattogram’s Sadarghat area on Friday, prompting heightened security at six railway security outposts, including Kamalapur in Dhaka, amid recent incidents involving train coaches.
The fire was reported around 5:47pm in the Banglabazar area near Majhirghat. Firefighters from the Agrabad and Port fire stations rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control within about 30 minutes.
The abandoned coach, located at an old railway station, was partially damaged in the fire.
A Fire Service official said the cause was not immediately confirmed, though discarded cigarette or bidi remains left by drug users could have sparked the blaze.
Railway authorities have increased vigilance at six railway security outposts following the incident.
The move comes after a series of recent incidents involving fires at railway coaches, including an incident at Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka last month.
Authorities are investigating the cause of Friday’s fire and assessing the extent of theincident
