Five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on an apartment building in Gaza early Saturday, October 3, according to local health and civil defence officials.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the reported strike.

The attack comes amid continued tensions over a US-mediated ceasefire agreement reached last year, with the two sides still divided over several key issues.

A major point of disagreement is the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. Israel has accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire by rearming and attempting attacks, while Hamas has denied the allegations and accused Israel of undermining the agreement.

Israeli strikes in Gaza have intensified in recent weeks.

According to health officials, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since last year’s ceasefire. Israel, meanwhile, says four of its soldiers have been killed in attacks by Palestinian armed groups during the same period.
