The minister made the remarks while responding to a question from journalists after visiting the Mainamati Museum and Shalban Vihara in Cumilla on Friday morning.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury said, “During the tenure of the interim government, the committee of the July Museum was somewhat disorganized. A new committee has now been formed, and a decision regarding this has been made in Parliament. Detailed information about the inauguration of the July Memorial Museum and other related matters will be announced soon through a press conference.”
He alleged that “the previous fascist fugitive Hasina government destroyed the country’s cultural heritage.” He added that during their rule, various sectors including education, arts, culture, law and the judiciary were damaged. “There was no value given to public opinion, and elections were turned into a farce. At the same time, billions of taka were siphoned off, destroying the banking and insurance sectors,” he said.
The minister said the current government is working relentlessly to restore the country’s lost heritage and cultural resources.
During the visit, the Culture Affairs Minister toured various archaeological artifacts at the Mainamati Museum and the Shalban Vihara. He was accompanied by Cumilla-6 constituency Member of Parliament Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Director General of the Department of Archaeology Sabina Alam, Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Rosie Akhter, Sadar South Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sujan Chandra Roy, and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sajib Talukder.
Among others present were Sadar South Upazila BNP President Advocate Akhtar Hossain, former president of Cumilla Metropolitan Swechchhasebak Dal VP Abdullah Al Mamun, Cumilla University Chhatra Dal Convener Mostafizur Rahman Shuvo, General Secretary Abul Bashar, as well as officials from various departments and leaders and activists of BNP at different levels.
