Eight more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Thursday, raising Bangladesh’s combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 779.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), all of the latest fatalities have been classified as suspected measles deaths.
With this update, the number of suspected deaths has climbed to 684, while laboratory-confirmed deaths remain at 95.
Health authorities reported 974 new suspected cases the same period, bringing the nationwide total to 115,138.
Meanwhile, 197 new infections were confirmed through laboratory testing, raising the number of confirmed cases to 14,104.
Since March 15, a total of 97,819 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 94,275 have recovered, DGHS data shows.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely as concerns grow over the spread of the highly contagious disease, particularly among children.
