Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal has described the upcoming 2026 presidential election as a “historic moment” in the effort to build a Bangladesh free from fascism.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while chairing a preparatory meeting for the presidential election at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Kamal said the state structure must be freed from fascist influence in all areas, describing the 2026 presidential election as a significant milestone in building a new Bangladesh.
Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, Opposition Chief Whip Md Nahid Islam and Whips Md G K Gaus, Rakibul Islam Bokul, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, Md Akhteruzzaman Mia and A B M Ashraf Uddin (Nizan) attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed preparations for holding the presidential election in the Jatiya Sangsad session chamber, including logistical arrangements and ensuring the attendance of members of parliament.
Participants also discussed completing all necessary preparations and providing adequate logistical support for the election.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the presidential election will be held on August 20 in the Jatiya Sangsad session chamber.
Under Section 3 of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, the Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the election.
Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed and senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were also present at the meeting.
