A total of Tk 2.40 crore has been collected in fines through 500 anti-adulteration mobile courts and drives conducted across the country in the 180 days since the current government took office, Food Minister Afroza Khanam Rita told Parliament on Thursday.
The minister disclosed the information in response to a question from MP Md Rashedul Islam Rashed during the question-answer session of the Jatiya Sangsad.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram chaired the session.
The minister said the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has been regularly monitoring food establishments, warehouses, and wholesale and retail food businesses using a risk-based approach to ensure food safety.
Food businesses are also being made aware through training, counselling, meetings, seminars and workshops, she added.
Afroza said that from the time the current government assumed office until August 17, 2026, a total of 7,766 food establishments were monitored over 180 days.
During the period, 500 anti-adulteration mobile courts and drives were conducted under the Safe Food Act and other relevant laws, resulting in fines totalling Tk 24,045,100.
She said the monitoring and enforcement activities are ongoing.
