Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to expedite construction of the Inner Circular Ring Road to help ease traffic congestion in Dhaka.
He issued the instruction at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat on Sunday (October 4), with the prime minister himself in the chair.
The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and the Local Government Division were asked to jointly review the existing project plan and accelerate construction work.
The prime minister stressed identifying and removing existing obstacles to the project, ensuring effective coordination among the agencies concerned and setting a realistic deadline for completion.
He also emphasised the need to ensure visible progress in the project’s implementation. The government has previously identified the Inner Circular Ring Road as a key transport project aimed at reducing congestion in the capital.
Road Transport and Bridges and Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Habib-ur-Rashid Habib, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton, and senior officials from the relevant ministries and divisions attended the meeting.
