Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said it is time to end the months-long war with the United States, arguing that Tehran is now in a position of strength.
Speaking at a meeting with doctors on Friday, Pezeshkian said ending the war now would be preferable because Iran was in a position of “strength and dignity.”
He also claimed that the international community recognises Iran’s victory and accused the United States of attacking schools, hospitals and infrastructure.
The remarks came as diplomatic talks between Tehran and Washington remain stalled. Iran has kept the strategically important Strait of Hormuz partially closed, while the United States continues its naval counter-blockade and threatens tougher economic sanctions against Tehran.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the US sanctions as “economic terrorism” and accused Washington of committing crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, China has criticised the sanctions and called for a political solution to the conflict.
