Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has opened its first party office in West Bengal, marking the beginning of its organisational activities in the state.
The office was inaugurated on Sunday in Fagupur in Purba Bardhaman district. TVK West Bengal state coordinator Chaitali Roy and party leaders from several districts attended the opening ceremony, according to local media reports.
Party leaders said their immediate focus in West Bengal would be on social work rather than political programmes.
They said the party would undertake various welfare activities to expand its organisation and establish direct contact with people.
Roy said the party’s central leadership in Tamil Nadu had instructed its state units to strengthen ties with people through social activities wherever the organisation was being established.
She said TVK would initially prioritise such activities in West Bengal.
The opening of the Fagupur office marked the formal beginning of TVK’s organisational activities in the district, the party claimed. It also plans to expand its network across different parts of the state and undertake social initiatives.
Roy said education and employment would be among the party’s priorities in West Bengal and indicated that TVK could contest elections in the state in the future, depending on the decision of the central leadership and public support.
Vijay entered active politics after a successful career as one of Tamil Nadu’s leading film stars. His party formed the government in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly election.
