Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned remarks by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton alleging that a senior political leader owns 700 auto-rickshaws, saying the claim was baseless and unsupported by verifiable evidence.

In a statement issued to the media on Friday, Jamaat Assistant Secretary-General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Ahsanul Mahbub Zubair said the remarks appeared to refer to the party’s Secretary-General and former MP Mia Golam Porwar.

Zubair said responsible public officials should make evidence-based and dignified statements. He called on the DNCC administrator to present specific and reliable evidence to support the allegation.

He also said issues surrounding auto-rickshaw movement, traffic congestion, road discipline and drivers’ livelihoods should be addressed based on public interest, facts and practical measures rather than unsubstantiated allegations against political leaders.

Jamaat demanded that the administrator publicly produce verifiable evidence supporting his remarks or withdraw them and express regret if he failed to substantiate the claim.
