State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain has dismissed reports that he was instructed to resign from the cabinet, describing the claims as rumours.

After reports of his resignation spread on Sunday evening, Ishraq himself told the media that the news was a rumour.

The reports came amid controversy over his participation in an anti-drug operation in the capital’s Gendaria area on Saturday, during which he was seen carrying a firearm.

Ishraq said on Sunday that media reports and social media posts had presented fragmented footage of the incident, creating confusion about the context and his role.

He defended his actions in a statement, saying the incident could not be properly understood from a few seconds of video footage alone.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch said it was examining whether any laws had been violated during the operation.

DB chief Md Shafiqul Islam said legal action would be taken if any violation was established.

As of Sunday, no official confirmation of an order directing Ishraq to resign was found in the available reports.
