Skywatchers have several celestial events to look forward to this November, including close encounters between the Moon and planets, the Southern Taurid meteor shower and opportunities to observe the distant Andromeda Galaxy.

According to Space.com, the night sky will offer a range of sights throughout the month, many of which can be enjoyed with the naked eye, while binoculars and telescopes can enhance the viewing experience.

One of the early highlights is the close approach of Mars to the waning crescent Moon on November 2. The reddish planet will appear near the lunar disc in the predawn sky, creating an attractive sight for observers.

On November 3, the Moon will pass close to Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo, while Jupiter and Mars will also shine nearby. Jupiter will be particularly prominent and easily visible to the naked eye.

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) will be well positioned for evening observation from November 4. Located in the constellation Andromeda, near the distinctive W-shaped Cassiopeia, it is the most distant astronomical object visible to the naked eye under dark rural skies. Through telescopes, observers may also spot its two satellite galaxies, M32 and M110.

Another highlight will be the Southern Taurid meteor shower, which is expected to reach its approximate peak around November 5. The shower typically produces around five to 10 meteors an hour, including bright fireballs with long-lasting trails.

The best viewing opportunity will be around midnight to 1:30 am, before moonlight begins to interfere with observations, Space.com reported.

No special equipment is needed to watch the meteor shower, although a clear, dark location away from city lights will improve visibility.

Astronomy enthusiasts can also use binoculars, telescopes and smartphone cameras to explore and photograph different celestial objects throughout the month.
