Prime Minister Tarique Rahman congratulated the Bangladesh national cricket team via video call after their historic first-ever Test victory over Australia on Australian soil.

On Sunday (August 16), the prime minister congratulated the players and everyone involved with the team and wished them success in the next Test.

While travelling to Kishoreganj on an official visit, Tarique Rahman joined the players by video call after receiving news of Bangladesh’s historic victory. He asked about their wellbeing and said people across the country were eagerly waiting to welcome the team home.

Referring to Hasan Mahmud’s nine wickets across the two innings and Mehedi Hasan Miraz’s five-wicket haul in the second innings, the prime minister said, “Yes, I saw it. Excellent, wonderful.”

When someone on the other end mentioned that Tanzid Hasan Tamim, a son of Bogura, had scored a century, Tarique Rahman replied, “He is not just a son of Bogura; he is a son of Bangladesh. He represents Bangladesh.”

The prime minister ended the call by saying he would meet the players when they return home.
