Portugal have overtaken Brazil in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, with the two sides swapping places in the top 10.
Brazil dropped one place to sixth after a 1-1 draw with Australia, while Portugal climbed two places to fifth following a perfect run in the Nations League.
The latest rankings, released on Wednesday, saw no changes in the top four. World champions Spain remained top, followed by Argentina, France and England.
Portugal moved to fifth with 1,807.69 points, just ahead of Brazil on 1,806.51.
Brazil lost 2.02 ranking points after drawing one of their two matches against Australia. They later beat India 4-0, but the draw was enough to cost Carlo Ancelotti’s side a place in the rankings.
Portugal benefited from Brazil’s slip. Despite the recent spotlight on Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal have maintained their strong form on the pitch, winning all four of their Nations League matches.
Morocco also dropped one place, while the rest of the top 10 remained largely unchanged. Belgium, the Netherlands, Mexico and Colombia occupy eighth to 11th places respectively.
There was more movement just outside the top 10. Switzerland climbed two places to 12th, while Germany and Croatia each slipped one place to 13th and 14th respectively.
