Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first in the one-off Test against Afghanistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
The match marks the first time Bangladesh are playing a Test at a neutral venue, with Afghanistan designated as the home side for the fixture.
The two teams have an even record in Test cricket, with one victory each from their two previous meetings. The Abu Dhabi Test will determine which side takes the lead in their head-to-head record.
Afghanistan stunned Bangladesh in their first Test meeting in Chattogram in 2019, winning by 224 runs.
Bangladesh, however, responded emphatically in the return fixture in Dhaka in 2023, securing a commanding 546-run victory.
