Bangladesh made a dominant start but lost their momentum towards the end of the opening day of their one-off Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Friday, finishing on 317-8 after 84 overs.
Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shadman Islam gave Bangladesh a flying start, putting on 124 runs for the first wicket.
Tanzid smashed 83 off 71 balls, while Shadman contributed 67.
However, Afghanistan fought back with disciplined bowling after lunch, triggering a middle-order collapse that put Bangladesh under pressure.
Mominul Haque scored 39, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 29. Mushfiqur Rahim fell for a duck as Bangladesh lost crucial wickets in quick succession.
Liton Das offered some resistance with a half-century, scoring 53 to help the Tigers recover from the collapse and post a competitive total by stumps.
Bangladesh will look to add valuable runs on the second day after surrendering much of the advantage gained through their impressive opening partnership.
