Bangladesh suffered an eight-wicket defeat to the West Indies in the first Test after a batting collapse, with the visitors chasing down a target of 170 in just 35.1 overs on Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The defeat has made Bangladesh’s hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship increasingly difficult.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 272 in their first innings, while the West Indies responded with 245, giving the hosts a 27-run lead.

However, Bangladesh failed to capitalise on the advantage, managing just 142 in their second innings to set the visitors a target of 170 runs.

West Indies openers Brandon King and John Campbell got off to an aggressive start in the chase, taking their team’s total to 50 in just 11 overs.

They continued their attacking approach, bringing up the 100-run mark in 19 overs and putting the visitors firmly in control of the match.
