Dhaka, July 24: Bangladesh’s men’s cricket team will begin its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games from the quarter-finals after securing a direct berth based on the latest ICC rankings.
The draw for both the men’s and women’s cricket competitions was held on Wednesday, confirming that Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will bypass the opening round and advance straight to the last eight.
The men’s tournament will feature 10 teams. While the top four ranked sides have earned automatic quarter-final spots, the remaining six teams will compete in the opening round for the other four places.
In the first round, Group A comprises Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal, while Group B includes Hong Kong, Malaysia and Oman. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals to face Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
All matches in the men’s competition will be played in the T20 format.
The men’s cricket tournament is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 1 in Nagoya, Japan.
Meanwhile, the women’s cricket event will feature eight teams, with the competition starting directly from the quarter-finals.
Bangladesh will face China in the quarter-finals, while India will take on Japan, Sri Lanka will meet Malaysia, and Pakistan will play Thailand.
The women’s tournament is scheduled to be held from September 17 to 22.
