Gold and silver prices in Bangladesh have been raised again, just a day after they were reduced, following an increase in the price of pure gold and silver in the local market.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association’s (BAJUS) Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Friday morning. The new prices took effect from 10:00 am, according to a statement signed by committee chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen.

Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery has been increased by Tk 2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams) to Tk 224,182, including VAT.

The price of 21-carat gold has risen by Tk 2,100 to Tk 214,093 per bhori, while 18-carat gold now costs Tk 183,883 per bhori after an increase of Tk 1,808.

The price of traditional-method gold has also been raised by Tk 1,458 to Tk 150,232 per bhori.

The latest revision comes just a day after BAJUS reduced gold prices across all categories. On July 9, the price of 22-carat gold was cut by Tk 3,324 per bhori to Tk 221,966, while prices of 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional gold were also lowered.

Silver jewellery prices have also been increased.

The price of 22-carat silver has been raised by Tk 117 to Tk 4,724 per bhori, while 21-carat silver now costs Tk 4,549 after a Tk 175 increase. The price of 18-carat silver has risen by Tk 116 to Tk 3,907, and traditional silver by Tk 58 to Tk 2,916 per bhori, all inclusive of VAT.

So far this year, BAJUS has adjusted gold prices 89 times, increasing them on 44 occasions and reducing them 45 times.

The country’s highest-ever gold price was recorded on January 29 this year, when the price of 22-carat gold was set at Tk 286,001 per bhori after a hike of Tk 16,213. That remains the record-high price in Bangladesh.
