A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck parts of southeastern Turkey early Saturday morning, but no casualties or damage have been reported, according to the country’s disaster management authority.
The tremor occurred at 6:20 am local time (0320 GMT) in the Battalgazi district of Malatya province, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in a statement.
The quake was also felt in neighboring provinces, including Elazig, Adiyaman, Tunceli and Sanliurfa.
AFAD confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.
“No adverse situation has been reported,” the agency said, adding that response teams remain active in the field as a precaution.
Turkey lies along multiple active fault lines, making it highly prone to earthquakes.
While Saturday’s quake did not result in harm, past seismic events in the region have caused significant destruction, keeping authorities on alert for potential aftershocks or future activity.
