Fourteen Saudi nationals were killed when a helicopter operated by state-owned oil giant Saudi Aramco crashed in eastern Saudi Arabia on Sunday, according to the kingdom’s official news agency.
The Saudi Press Agency, citing an official from the Energy Ministry, said the helicopter went down in Ras Tanura, a key hub for the country’s oil industry.
The crash claimed the lives of all 14 people on board, all of whom were Saudi citizens, the report said.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims or provided details about the helicopter’s mission at the time of the accident.
Officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash. No immediate information was released regarding possible technical faults, weather conditions or other factors that may have contributed to the incident.
Ras Tanura is home to one of the world’s largest oil export terminals and is a major operational centre for Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil producer.
