Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured business leaders of measures to address the ongoing gas shortage affecting Bangladesh’s industrial sector, particularly the textile industry.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Showkat Aziz Russell said the crisis was largely the result of delays in timely decision-making.
He said the Prime Minister acknowledged the challenges facing the textile sector and expressed a commitment to resolving them. “Entrepreneurs are encouraged by the government’s sincerity in addressing these problems,” he added.
According to Russell, factory owners have been asked to submit detailed reports outlining the extent of disruptions—whether partial or complete shutdowns—and the level of support needed to resume full operations.
The textile sector, one of the country’s key export earners, has been facing production setbacks due to gas shortages, impacting output and raising concerns among industrial entrepreneurs.
Industry leaders hope that swift government intervention and targeted support measures will help stabilize production and restore confidence in the sector.
