Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has blamed the previous Awami League government for the country’s ongoing electricity and energy crisis, saying its “unplanned policies and various measures” have contributed to the current situation.
“I know people across the country, not only in Dhaka but also in many districts and upazilas, are suffering from electricity shortages at this moment,” the prime minister said.
He made the remarks on Sunday morning while inaugurating the release and distribution of fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj, marking National Fisheries Week 2026.
Tarique Rahman said the people had elected the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and that the party would work in the interests of the country and its people.
“On the 27th, the session of the Jatiya Sangsad will begin again. In that session, your party and your government will present to the people how, InshaAllah, we will solve the country’s electricity problems over the next 10 years,” he said.
The prime minister reached Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat at around 11:24am after travelling from Dhaka by road. He formally launched the activities of National Fisheries Week 2026 by releasing and distributing fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River.
The central opening ceremony of National Fisheries Week 2026 is being held in Pakundia and Katiadi upazilas of Kishoreganj, marking the second time the national event has been organised outside Dhaka in a district.
Following the fish-fry release programme, the prime minister is scheduled to visit the Katiadi Carp Hatchery Complex. At 1pm, he is scheduled to inaugurate National Fisheries Week 2026 and present the National Fisheries Awards 2016.
