Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended financial assistance and gifts to a family of five orphaned sisters who lost both their parents within a month.
The initiative followed a media report highlighting the plight of the five sisters after their parents died within 31 days amid financial hardship and mounting debt.
After seeing the report, Tarique instructed his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman to send a delegation to stand by the family.
On Friday, October 2, a delegation led by Amra BNP Paribar Member Secretary Krishibid Moksedul Momin Mithun visited the home of the late farmer couple Abul Kalam Azad and Farida Begum in Radhanagar village of Bilashpur union in Dohar upazila, Dhaka.
The delegation met family members, enquired about their wellbeing and spoke with the five orphaned sisters. Financial assistance and gifts were handed over to the family on behalf of Tarique Rahman.
Speaking to reporters, Mithun said Tarique Rahman had formed Amra BNP Paribar to support distressed people regardless of their political affiliation.
He said the Prime Minister had immediately instructed the organisation to stand by the family after the media reported their plight.
“We have come here today with his message of sympathy and support,” Mithun said.
He added that the initiative to support helpless and distressed families would continue in the future, Inshallah.
Several BNP and affiliated organisation leaders were also present during the visit.
The couple reportedly died amid prolonged financial hardship and debt. Farida Begum died first, and 31 days later, her husband Abul Kalam Azad was found hanging inside their home.
