Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will not visit India unless a favourable environment is created, with Bangladesh urging New Delhi to take necessary steps in this regard.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson and Additional Foreign Secretary for Public Diplomacy A K M Shahidul Karim said this at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday (August 16).
He said Bangladesh is awaiting a conducive environment for the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, as well as suspects accused in the killing of Osman Hadi and other fugitives.
Shahidul Karim said Dhaka has conveyed to New Delhi that these issues need to be addressed before the prime minister’s proposed visit to India.
The comments came amid speculation over the possibility of Tarique Rahman visiting India.
