Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the party must repay the immense trust placed in it by the people at any cost.
He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with four newly appointed members of the BNP’s National Standing Committee at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
The new standing committee members—Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Aman Ullah Aman, Farhad Halim Donar and Ismail Zabihullah—met Tarique Rahman and congratulated him with flowers. Home Minister and standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed was also present at the meeting.
According to sources, the meeting discussed the country’s overall development, the current political situation and ways to further strengthen democratic institutions.
Tarique Rahman urged the new standing committee members to work with utmost dedication for the welfare of the country and its people.
He stressed that the standing committee must play a leading role, together with leaders and activists at all levels of the party, in meeting the people’s high expectations.
He also emphasized the importance of close coordination between the government and the party to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh.
He called for using the experience and wisdom of senior party leaders to bring greater dynamism to state administration.
The newly appointed standing committee members expressed their full confidence in the BNP chairman and pledged to work together to implement the party’s and government’s future plans.
They also vowed to work toward building a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh while upholding the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and the struggle of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
