Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 5,005 Indian mobile phone displays worth an estimated Tk4.40 crore from a forested area near the Bangladesh-India border in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar upazila.
BGB-25 Battalion Commander Lt Col Jabbar Ahmed disclosed the information at a press briefing at the battalion headquarters on Saturday.
He said a patrol team from Mukundapur Border Outpost (BOP) launched a special operation on Friday based on a tip-off.
The team searched an area around 300 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar No. 2008/1-S in Kamalmonora and recovered 5,005 Indian smartphone displays that had been concealed in the forest.
The estimated market value of the seized displays is Tk4.40 crore, the commander said.
He added that legal procedures were underway and the seized goods would be handed over to Akhaura Customs.
BGB personnel remain on alert to prevent the smuggling of fuel oil and fertilisers across the border, Lt Col Jabbar said.
