Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been detained in Delhi for allegedly participating in an unlawful assembly, TV9 reported.

According to the report, Banerjee was staging a sit-in outside her residence on South Avenue in Delhi on Saturday (October 10), accompanied by Trinamool Congress leaders Dola Sen and Derek O’Brien.

Delhi Police arrived at the site and asked them to leave and withdraw the protest. However, Banerjee and other Trinamool Congress members continued their sit-in, following which they were detained.

They are being taken away in a prison van, but their destination remains unknown.

Delhi Police have detained two former chief ministers in a single day. Earlier, former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was also detained by police. Instead of taking him directly to a police station, officers reportedly drove him around various roads in Delhi.

Similarly, the destination of Banerjee and the other Trinamool Congress MPs from Kalighat remains unclear. Source: Agencies.
