A woman and her nine-month-olSylhet road crashd daughter were killed when a bus collided with an easy-bike on the Sylhet–Bholaganj road in Sylhet district on Saturday evening. Three others, including the easy-bike driver, were injured.
The accident occurred around 7:45pm near Keowchhara Bridge in the Kakuarpar area of Sylhet Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Sumaiya Siddika Tania, a resident of the Shah Paran area of Sylhet city, and her daughter, Inaya Jannat.
According to eyewitnesses, a bus operated by Sadapathor Paribahan was heading towards Sylhet when it collided head-on with an easy-bike coming from the opposite direction while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The impact crushed the easy-bike, killing the mother and daughter at the scene.
Local residents rescued the injured and took them to hospital for treatment.
Shahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sylhet Airport Police Station, said the bus was travelling from Bholaganj towards Sylhet city when it struck the oncoming easy-bike.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The bus driver and his helper reportedly fled the scene after the crash. Police are searching for them and taking steps to seize the bus and the damaged easy-bike.
