A 33-year-old Bangladeshi expatriate died while returning home from Mozambique after falling ill aboard a Qatar Airways flight, with emergency medical personnel declaring him dead after the aircraft landed in Qatar.
The deceased, Mohammad Jasim Uddin, was a resident of Ward 7 in the Chhararkul area of East Chambal under Chambal Union in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram. He was the son of Mohammad Sayed Mia.
M R Mujib, president of the Mozambique Expatriates Unity Council, confirmed his death.
According to family members, Jasim boarded a Qatar Airways flight from Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, for Bangladesh on Friday, October 9. About two hours later, after the aircraft reached an airport in Qatar, he was taken for emergency medical attention. Medical personnel examined him and declared him dead.
His body is being prepared for repatriation to Bangladesh.
Jasim’s elder brother, Mohammad Yunus, said the family received news of his death on Friday night. They initially suspected that he had suffered a heart attack, although the cause of death had not been officially confirmed.
His sudden death has plunged his family and relatives into mourning. He was returning home after years abroad to reunite with his loved ones when the tragedy occurred.
