Police have recovered the partially decomposed body of a 70-year-old woman from her home in Kedur Mor area of Rajshahi city. Three people, including her domestic worker, have been detained for questioning over the incident.
The body of Beli Khatun was recovered on Sunday night (October 11), police and local sources said.
Beli lived alone in her house, as all four of her children live abroad. Her husband died several years ago.
According to police and local residents, a rented occupant of the house, who works for an intelligence agency, and neighbours alerted police after receiving no response despite repeatedly calling out to her for a long time.
They later broke open the door and found her dead inside. Police subsequently recovered the partially decomposed body.
Officer-in-Charge of Boalia Model Police Station Masuma Mustari said there were injury marks on the woman’s body. Police suspect it was a planned murder and believe she may have been killed two to three days before the body was found.
The body was sent to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Sunday night for an autopsy.
Police are investigating the incident but have yet to determine the motive behind the suspected killing.
