The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has introduced special security measures across Bangladesh to ensure the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, with thousands of personnel deployed and patrols intensified.
A total of 2,457 SRB members are performing security duties daily, while more than 6,000 personnel from 15 battalions are engaged in a special security operation scheduled to continue until October 22.
The force is conducting daily patrols using 549 pickup vehicles and 447 motorcycles in key areas and along important roads.
SRB Director General and Additional Inspector General Mohammad Ahsan Habib Palash said there was no specific threat of sabotage so far.
However, dog squads and bomb disposal teams remain ready to respond to any untoward incident or suspicious activity.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Mirpur Central Temple in Dhaka on Thursday, he said the force had taken comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of worshippers and maintain communal harmony.
Security arrangements also include measures to protect female visitors and prevent harassment at puja venues.
Cyber monitoring teams are keeping watch on social media to counter rumours and misleading information.
Special patrols will be deployed along idol transportation and immersion routes on Bijoya Dashami, October 21.
SRB personnel will remain at immersion sites until the process is completed peacefully.
Durga Puja celebrations begin on October 16 with Maha Shashthi and conclude on October 21 with Bijoya Dashami.
