Saudi police have arrested four expatriates from Bangladesh and India in Riyadh on allegations of begging, according to local media reports.
The arrests were reported on October 20 by Saudi newspaper Al-Sabq and confirmed by the kingdom’s Public Security authorities.
The four individuals have been detained, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them under applicable regulations.
The arrests are part of an ongoing campaign by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior, through its Public Security directorate, to combat begging in public places.
Following the arrests, authorities urged citizens and residents to make charitable donations only through official and authorised platforms.
The move aims to ensure that financial assistance reaches people genuinely in need and prevent donations from inadvertently supporting begging.
Saudi authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing begging in all its forms and ensuring that charitable contributions are distributed through approved channels.
The authorities did not disclose the identities of the four detainees or provide further details about the circumstances of their arrests.
