Security concerns are mounting in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, as attacks and counterattacks intensify amid escalating hostilities between Saudi-led forces and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels.
The Houthis have launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s key infrastructure, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and facilities belonging to state-owned oil giant Saudi Aramco.
The airport attacks have caused casualties and disrupted air travel.
Saudi-led forces have intercepted several incoming missiles and drones, while Saudi Arabia has also intensified strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, raising fears of further escalation.
On Wednesday, the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted a ballistic missile launched towards Riyadh. Falling debris from intercepted projectiles has damaged residential properties, adding to concerns over civilian safety.
The Houthis have vowed to continue targeting Saudi airports and oil facilities, while the latest exchanges have heightened uncertainty over the security situation in the kingdom.
The escalating conflict threatens to widen regional instability and disrupt aviation and energy infrastructure, with diplomatic efforts yet to secure a lasting ceasefire.
