Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: Malaysia has repatriated 27 foreign prisoners, including 16 Bangladeshis, to their respective home countries after they completed their legal proceedings and served their sentences.
The repatriation operation was carried out on October 21 through Terminals 1 and 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, Selangor, according to an official statement from the Terengganu state Immigration Department.
All 27 individuals were men aged between 19 and 50. Besides the 16 Bangladeshis, the group included seven Indonesian nationals, two Indians, one Pakistani and one Cambodian.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted by the department’s Relocation Unit with assistance from a team from the Ajil Immigration Control Depot.
The department said all those repatriated had completed the necessary legal proceedings and served their respective sentences before being sent home. They had also been blacklisted under the relevant provisions of Malaysian immigration law, restricting their ability to re-enter the country in accordance with applicable regulations.
Following the completion of the required procedures, the individuals were transported to the airport and returned to their respective countries.
The Terengganu Immigration Department reaffirmed its commitment to conducting repatriation operations in an orderly, safe and dignified manner while safeguarding Malaysia’s sovereignty and national security.
It also said such operations would continue as part of its efforts to enforce the country’s immigration laws.
