Mirza Faisal Amin, newly elected MP from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, and Eliza Zaman, elected to reserved women’s seat-23, were sworn in on Tuesday.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered the oath to them at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around noon.

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Faisal Amin, the BNP-nominated candidate for Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar-Ruhia-Bhulli), won the by-election with 227,917 votes under the party’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of paddy.

His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delawar Hossain, secured 96,513 votes, leaving a margin of 131,404 votes between the two candidates.

Meanwhile, Eliza Zaman was elected unopposed to reserved women’s seat-23 in the 13th Parliament. The Election Commission (EC) declared her elected on Monday after the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers expired.

An official gazette notification confirming her election has also been published.

The seat fell vacant after BNP lawmaker Ferdousi Ahmed Misty resigned from the reserved women’s seat on October 1. The EC subsequently arranged a by-election to fill the vacancy.
