State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari is being taken to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment after being injured in a road accident in Shibganj of Bogura on Friday morning.
The accident occurred in the Gopinathpur area on the Joypurhat–Mokamtola regional highway. A woman named Firoza Bibi, who was also injured in the accident, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Friday afternoon.
Following the accident, State Minister Abdul Bari and his wife, Nazma Ara Begum, were taken to Joypurhat General Hospital, where they received initial treatment. The state minister was later referred to a private hospital in Dhaka for further treatment.
Joypurhat Deputy Commissioner Al-Mamun Mia confirmed that the minister left for Dhaka by ambulance at around 1pm. He said the minister could not attend any of his scheduled programmes in Joypurhat due to the accident.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the accident occurred while the state minister was travelling to Joypurhat on an official visit. A woman identified as Firoza Bibi suddenly came in front of the minister’s vehicle in the Gopinathpur area. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which subsequently fell into a paddy field beside the road.
The state minister and his wife were injured in the incident.
Sardar Rashed Mobarak, superintendent of Joypurhat General Hospital, said the state minister had not suffered any bone fractures. He sustained a soft-tissue injury to his right leg, along with minor injuries to his hand, shoulder and neck. He was given initial treatment, including a short-leg plaster, before doctors advised that he be taken to a private hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
