A pedestrian was killed after a passenger bus lost control and crashed into the compound of Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, an employee of a local hotel. Two others, including a child travelling on the bus, were injured in the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gulshan Division) Tanvir Hasan confirmed the accident.

According to police and local sources, a Poristhan Paribahan bus was attempting to pull over near Kurmitola to drop off passengers when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus veered off the road and rammed into the hospital premises.

The impact demolished part of the wall of the gas control room adjacent to the hospital’s main gate. Rafiqul Islam, who was standing in front of the gate, died on the spot after being struck by the bus.

Following the accident, police from Cantonment Police Station detained the bus driver. An investigation into the incident is underway.
